The Kollel welcomed a new family to Denver following Pesach. Rabbi Avraham Dovid and Sara Yehudis Karnowsky relocated to Denver from Lakewood, NJ.
Rabbi Karnowsky was born and raised in Gateshead, England. He studied in the Gateshead Yeshiva, where his father is the mashgiach (spiritual overseer). He subsequently studied in the Yeshiva of Paterson, NJ, and in Yeshivas Brisk in Jerusalem. After returning from Israel, he attended Beth Medrash Govoha of Lakewood, NJ.
Sara Yehudis Karnowsky (nee Schwab) is a Lakewood, NJ native, and she had lived there all her life prior to her arrival in Denver. She is related to Kollel Dean Rabbi Aron Yehuda Schwab and her grandfather, Rabbi Moshe Schwab, a cousin of Kollel founder Rabbi Myer J. Schwab, founded the Detroit Community Kollel. Sara Yehudis has taken a position as administrative assistant in Hillel Academy.
The Karnowskys have one son, 11-month old Elchonon.
Reb Avraham Dovid and Sara Yehudis married and lived in Lakewood for two years before joining the Kollel. While in Lakewood, they participated in the Ner Le’elef Fellowship, which provides the training and skills necessary for scholars looking to go into the rabbinate or outreach positions in Jewish communities throughout the world. Capably led by Rabbi Moshe Katz, Ner Le’elef has been the source of many current and associate Kollel families, including Rabbi Dovid and Faigy Gertz, Rabbi Mordechai and Devorah Fleisher, Rabbi Shmuel and Sara Halpern, Rabbi Moshe and Yehudis Heyman, Rabbi Eli and Gitty Mozes, Rabbi Dovid and Batsheva Schwartzberg, and Rabbi Yaakov and Hadassah Zions.
Rabbi Karnowsky’s impact is already being felt in the Kollel Bais Medrash. “Rabbi Karnowsky has hit the ground running,” says Kollel Dean Rabbi Shachne Sommers, “and he is already contributing his Torah scholarship and diligence to the Kollel Bais Medrash.”
For their part, the Karnowskys are quickly acclimating to their new surroundings.
“We are so lucky to be part of such a beautiful community,” says Rabbi Karnowsky. “We are very excited to get to know everybody!”
“We are so happy to join the community,” says Sara Yehudis. “We have only been here a couple of days and we have been taken care of non-stop!”
