The Denver Community Kollel held its monthly Torah for Tycoons lunch-and-learn last Wednesday, May 4th, at the East Side Kosher Deli.
The class focused on the challenges of estate planning. Deciding what you want done with your assets after you leave this world is difficult, but making it happen is even more complicated. Navigating the different options for estate planning generally requires the expertise of a professional to ensure everything is done in accordance with your wishes and the law. The Torah has rules for bequeathing one’s possessions as well, and ensuring that your plans, Uncle Sam’s demands, and the Torah’s guidelines all work together seamlessly can present a formidable challenge.
Mr. Theodore Z. Gelt, Of Counsel for BakerHostetler, and Kollel Senior Educator Rabbi Mordechai Fleisher discussed the issues and challenges of ensuring a secular will is made in accordance with halacha. They presented numerous potential solutions and practical options available based on halacha, and how those routes would interact with secular law.
More than thirty people attended the class, which ran for approximately an hour. Next month’s class, entitled Concern for a Cause: Ensuring Your Philanthropy Achieves its Goals, will feature Bruce DeBoskey, J.D., Philanthropic Strategist, The DeBoskey Group, and Rosh Kollel Rabbi Aron Yehuda Schwab. The session will be the final one before Torah for Tycoons breaks for the summer, and it will close out a 12th successful season of the Torah for Tycoons lunch-and-learn program bringing the Torah’s timeless wisdom to bear on contemporary issues and challenges in the workplace.
