The Denver Community Kollel’s annual Donor Appreciation Event took place on Sunday evening, September 20th at the home of Drs. Joel and Goldie Cohen in Englewood, CO. The Donor Appreciation Event is a time when those dedicated to the Kollel gather to show their support, as well as an opportunity for the Kollel to express its appreciation to its supporters.
This year’s event was held in the beautiful and spacious home of Drs. Joel and Goldie Cohen. The Kollel’s friends and supporters turned out in droves to attend this unique occasion.
At the event, Kollel Dean Rabbi Aron Yehuda Schwab discussed that the Kollel is celebrating its 18th year of bringing Torah to Denver Jewry. He explained that the significance of the number eighteen, the numerical value of the word chai, is because chai means life. The breath of life imbued by Hashem into Mankind, said Rabbi Schwab, is explained by the commentators as referring to the capacity of speech. And a most elevated form of speech, he concluded, is speaking words and thoughts of Torah.
Rabbi Mordechai Fleisher, the Kollel’s Senior Educator, discussed a number of new and exciting programs the Kollel is undertaking. The most notable program, he said, is the Kollel’s M.B. Glassman Foundation GOLD Senior Division, dedicated to bringing joy and meaning to the lives of Jewish seniors through Torah. Dr. Philip Mehler, President of the M.B. Glassman Foundation, discussed the genesis of the GOLD Division. He explained that Mr. Bud Glassman a”h, who had created the trust, was committed to improving the lives of seniors. The M.B. Glassman Foundation, he announced, will be considering the Kollel’s proposal for the GOLD Division at its next meeting. “Our goal,” said Dr. Mehler, “is to cause this program to grow in multitudes over the next number of years… and we hope to be able to carry on the legacy that Bud Glassman had. We need to take care of the youth, but we also can’t forget about the seniors, and we applaud the Kollel for its efforts and wish them much success.”
The event featured Delectable Delights, a culinary experience artistically designed by the Kollel women. Everyone enjoyed the food, the camaraderie, and the opportunity to come out and show support for an organization that has, and continues to, bring Torah learning, Torah teaching and Torah living to Denver Jewry.
