| What Is Torah for Tycoons? Torah for Tycoons is a business ethics lunch-and-learn series, created by the Denver Community Kollel, to address the very real challenges of maintaining high ethical standards in the competitive marketplace.
The monthly series is an opportunity for Jewish business professionals from throughout Denver to come together to discuss ways to overcome these challenges.
At each luncheon, a local business leader presents an ethical dilemma he faces in his line of work. Rabbi Shachne Sommers, Dean of the Kollel, then illustrates how the Torah’s timeless wisdom can be applied to overcome that dilemma. An interactive question-and-answer session follows.
Torah for Tycoons is made possible through a generous grant from the Harry H. Beren Trust Z.B. The Impact When Torah for Tycoons was founded in 2003, no one would have imagined that the program would quickly become a household name. Or that now, more than four years later, the program would still be going strong, with an increasing number of Jewish businesspeople gaining a new understanding of how the Torah’s halachic principles impact their everyday business lives.
Nearly 300 men and women have attended the program since its inception, and many say they now “stop and think” and “consider what the Torah might say” before making difficult ethical decisions in business.
The program has succeeded in bringing the importance of ethics in business to the forefront of the Jewish business community’s collective consciousness.
